This is an insightful book, which can be read by IT staff, IT Leaders, Students and business line staff too. Claude has written a book that incorporates all aspects of IT, incorporating many ideas, facets and concepts all under one cover. This is a book that can be read in sections or straight through. The book can also be used as a reference to understand specific concepts or technology practices. There is not any aspect of an organizations technology that has been left out. This book extensively covers a wide range of topics in a language that everyone can understand. The book is filled with insights and numerous quotes to deliver the concepts and make the reader smile. This is not the normal technology book, it is complete and through, yet understandable.
This is a book of many insights One of my favorite comments in the book is how does a CIO gets to be the CIO? “Could it be because he/she is a better programmer, administrator, or project manager? Nonsense. The decisive difference between a CIO and any other IT experts is the fact that the CIO has a higher tolerance for pain.” These statements make the book authentic in the delivery of the material.
This is not a book about how to use technology but a book to understand the technology department, giving an insight on how to get value out the ever changing technology investment in an organization. This would be a good book for Business Students to use as an introduction to IT in an organization.
The only negative I can find with the book, it that it has been obviously translated from German and at times, the translation is obvious. This does not take away any of the meaning of the book. I feel the translation challenges add creditability to this being a book about real world IT from a guy that has been there. I highly recommend the book for IT leaders for ideas and even consoling in the aspect that others have been there too!
